Webinar: Life cycle assessment of Swedish forestry systems - birch and spruce

12/12/2025

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Online

PhD student Aureo A. Abreu Junior presents the latest from his research project on the climate impact of using birch and spruce.

Climate impacts of forest production in Sweden is a hot topic for discussing climate mitigation strategies. Life cycle assessment is a method for accounting the greenhouse gases emissions of a system, process or service. In the forest, the complexity and dynamic of the system deserves a holistic perspective, in which all four sub-systems are taken into account: the forest, the value chain emissions, harvested wood products and potential substitution effects. Spruce is a well stablished species in the wood market, while birch represents a potential fast-growing broadleaf species.

In this webinar we will discuss how these tree species, management strategies and assortment of the harvested wood products can influence climate benefits.

The presentation is held by Aureo A. Abreu Junior, PhD student at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and within Trees For Me.
