Erik Arvidsson

About me

I am a doctoral student in machine design at Luleå University of Technology (LTU). I completed my M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at LTU in 2022. During the final stage of my studies, I worked with Bracke Forest in the SIRIUS project course to develop a new lightweight mechanized planting unit. It was during the project course that the interest in forestry and its development was created. Originally, I come from Hjärnarp, a village in Scania County, but I moved up to Luleå in 2017 to study.

In my spare time, I enjoy being out in nature, and downhill skiing.

About my research project

In Trees For Me I am working within work package 2 (WP2), where my goal is to research what is required to perform autonomous planting of fast-growing broadleaf trees. My first project focused on developing digital tools to predict plant selection based on map data. Subsequently, I am working on developing tools to generate driving routes for machines with large turning radii in complex terrain, such as forestry machinery.
