Webinar: Are exisiting production models suitable for planted birch?

9/18/2026

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Online

PhD student Ola Dosumu presents a comparison of existing production models on new types of birch stands.

In forest management, we often use functions based on a tree's diameter at breast height. These functions are tree species-specific. For a long time, we have primarily used birch functions based on naturally regenerated birch.

How well do exisiting models for taper functions or tree biomass work on today's planted birch? The study compared old functions on new birch stands. It also evaluated the early thinning response, how different thinning strategies affect yields of pulpwood and bioenergy, and growth in the remaining stand.

The presentation will be given by Ola Dosumu, PhD student at the Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre, SLU, and within Trees For Me.
